Bee Card terms and conditions are being updated

Motu Move, the new national payment and ticketing solution for public transport, is being introduced region by region over the next couple of years. This means Bee Cards will expire at different times, depending on when each region transitions to Motu Move. The terms and conditions are being updated on 27 February 2025 to reflect this phased approach. To read all terms and conditions visit beecard.co.nzopen_in_new.
You don’t need to do anything right now.
For the Bay of Plenty, we expect to transition to Motu Move later in 2025, though exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time. Until then, your Bee Card remains valid, and you can continue using it as usual.
What happens when Bee Card expires?
Once the Bee Card system ends in each region, Bee Cards, the value on them, and any remaining tickets will no longer be usable. At that point, you’ll need to switch to a new payment method, such as:
- Contactless debit or credit card
- Digital payments on mobile phones and smart watches (including Apple Pay and Google Pay)
- A prepaid Motu Move card
Refunds and managing your balance
To avoid any inconvenience, we strongly recommend using up your Bee Card balance before the transition to Motu Move (expected later in 2025 for Bay of Plenty). We will provide you with plenty of notice of the Bee Card system ending and all the information and support you’ll need to get ready to use Motu Move.
Concessions and discounts
Concessions will still be available under Motu Move, ensuring discounted fares continue for eligible customers. The process for setting up concessions will be confirmed closer to the transition, and we’ll provide guidance when the time comes.
What’s changing?
