National Ticketing Solution (NTS): Introducing Motu Move

How you pay for public transport is changing. 

The National Ticketing Solution (NTS) is a partnership between NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and 13 Public Transport Authorities across New Zealand, all working together to make paying for public transport simpler and more flexible. 

The new national system will be called Motu Move. Once it’s up and running, you’ll be able to pay for your bus rides with a range of easy options—use a contactless debit or credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay on your phone or watch, or a prepaid Motu Move card. 

The rollout starts in Canterbury from late 2024, with other regions to follow. For the Bay of Plenty, we’re expected to start in late 2025, though dates will be confirmed closer to the time.
